The work of securing equality is never done

Happy Pride Month.

As we celebrate our LGBTQIA+ community, I'm reflecting this month on the long (and ongoing) movement for equality here in Oregon and across the country.

Many people forget that it wasn't so long ago that anti-gay ballot measures were winning here in Oregon. It was a shameful period. But because of the heroic work of organizers and groups on the ground, we've been able to turn the page.

Of course, the work of securing equality is never done.

It's on all of us to continue fighting bigotry in all forms and ensure that no one is discriminated against for who they are or who they love.

In Congress, this work continues as well. The House has passed the Equality Act to prohibit discrimination on the basis of sex, gender identity, and sexual orientation at the federal level.

Now more than ever, it's a time to double down on these efforts to get this legislation passed through the Senate.

Because love is, and will always be, love.
