You answered the call. Now, our students have the tools they need.

Earlier this month, I asked for your help to strengthen civics education here in Oregon.

Hundreds of you answered the call and joined me in contacting local elected officials in support of the Civics Education Act.

I'm glad to share that our hard work paid off. Earlier today, the civics legislation passed the Oregon House of Representatives by a unanimous vote.

That's right. All 60 Democrats and Republicans voted together in support of this common sense measure to make civics education a high school graduation requirement.

With the bill now heading to Governor Brown's desk, Oregon will no longer be one of the last states lacking a civics requirement for high schoolers.

I know the grassroots support for this legislation moved the needle and helped people on both sides of the aisle come together to protect our democracy. Now, students across our state will have the tools to do their part as well.

Our win here in Oregon is only the beginning. I'm continuing my work in Congress to strengthen civics education across the country.

As I've said before, this is how we equip our young people to be guardians of democracy.

Thank you again for your support of this critical cause. As always, courage.
